Item: Brooch
Represents the pilot whales that sometimes strand on the inside of the spit. Inspired from Artists in Residence 5-day stay at Cape Farewell lighthouse in 2018 sponsored by Golden Bay Arts Council.
Materials: Sterling silver (whale, bolts and backing), 9ct gold (sand), titanium (sky), acrylic (sea) and copper (whale eye). Titanium heated to create sky effect. All components (as shown in supporting photo) cut out by hand using jeweller's saw and polished before assembly using 4 hand-made bolts.
